Listen: how to help friend who is being abused/domestic violence?
My number one bit of advice: Listen. Just let her talk, don’t judge, don’t try and fix, don’t tell her what to do. If she can’t, help her find assistance. Check out the number below and keep it handy for her, just in case. If you are not sure what she should do let someone who does help her. Let her call the number below when she isn’t at home if possible. They will help her.
For me I had two women I barely began to know who just encourage me to talk and talk. They sometimes cried with me and were in shock at things I had to get off my chest. Their listening is what got me through it all.
Encourage her/him to talk: Make sure to bring some kleenex too, for both of you.
Just be a friend: most women/men feel very isolated when abused so having someone that doesn’t judge them make all the difference.
Thank you loving your friend, she appreciates it. Know that your support can mean the world to her.
